KENYA | March 2014

Accompany IAFR President, Tom Albinson, on his March 2014 visit to Kakuma refugee camp in remote northwestern Kenya where we will deepen our relationships with the United Refugee and Host Churches (URHC) and National Council of Churches, Kenya.

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Complete IAFR online short-term application
  • Complete all vaccinations recommended by CDC prior to trip (non reimbursable)
  • Healthy personal immune system
  • Physical capacity to walk long distances and stand for extended periods of time
  • Physical capacity to cope with blowing dust, extreme heat and intense sun
  • Emotional stability to cope with unexpected circumstances
  • Ability to live in very simple conditions

FRANCE - JUNGLE TOUR | July 2014

France-100xLocation: Northern France & Belgium

Dates: July 2014

Cost: € 300 (£260, US$390)
This includes all expenses related to the bike tour as a team including the channel crossing. It does not include a bike rental cost or any personal spending. Likewise it does not include the cost of travel to and from Lille, France.

Description

This year the Jungle tour bike ride will last 7 days. The route includes refugee locations in Northern France, and then across the channel to Canterbury, England, where we will be hosted by Amnesty International. The ride is an effort to show solidarity with undocumented refugees and to raise awareness of their difficult situation. IAFR will take part in the tour alongside of 30–40 others from various humanitarian and volunteer organizations. The ride offers IAFR and those who join us as a team the opportunity to interact with local communities.

PROGRAM
July ___, arrive in Lille, France, for preparation and prayer as an IAFR team. The Jungle Tour will visit 5-6 Jungle locations including Bailleul, Calais, Dunkirk and Canterbury in the UK. We will meet with asylum-seekers and refugees. We will participate in activities facilitated by various Jungle Tour partner organizations. Meals will be simple and often picnic-style. At the end of the tour, we will debrief together in Lille, France. Plan to depart France on July __ or __.

EXPECTATIONS

  • ride about 40-60 km (25-40 miles) every day to a new location – rain or shine
  • program and accommodations arranged by the local host
  • sleep on the ground in schools, tents, and municipal buildings
  • ride as a group in a friendly and casual atmosphere
  • biking experience is helpful but not required
  • bikes to rent are available if you can’t bring your own
  • lots of French ...but it is not required

Malawi-100xLocation: Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi

Description

A team of up to 3 people will join IAFR President Tom Albinson on his annual visit to Dzaleka refugee camp where we have a long term relationship with two refugee churches. This trip will focus on learning from one another concerning youth ministry in the context of a refugee camp. The team will also visit refugee church ministries in Malawian villages near the camp.
