Turkey

I met this yazidi boy while visiting a refugee camp in southeastern turkey. a man brought him to me asking if i knew someone who could adopt him. his family had been killed by isis in iraq. the family that took him to turkey was planning to flee to europe and didn't want to take the boy on the dangerous journey. the story speaks to the assault on hope in the lives of forcibly displaced people - most of whom are children. the strong arm on the boy's shoulder makes me think of the strong arm of god - in whom i pray the boy has found refuge. -tom albinson
