600 Bibles

- Tom Albinson

Our shipment of over 600 Bibles arrived in Kakuma refugee camp this month. None are in English. At the request of refugee churches in the camp, we sent Turkana, Amharic, Arabic, Kinyarwanda and Swahili Bibles to them. We're thankful for the privilege of partnering with United Refugee and Host churches in Kakuma - an association of over 160 diverse churches from the camp and surrounding host community. They tell us what languages they need. They handle the logistics of distribution when shipments arrive (see above photo from URHC's Bible distribution this month).
Furthermore, we partner with Biblica in Nairobi to order Bibles - and with the National Council of Churches Kenya (NCCK) to transport the Bibles from Nairobi to Kakuma. By working together with these partners, the project keeps moving forward.
We've provided nearly 20,000 Bibles to these churches since the project began back in 2012. With a population of around 200,000 refugees, the need for Bibles continues to be great in the camp - especially as new refugees continually arrive and some refugees either return home or find another solution to their displacement. You can provide a Bible in the mother tongue of a refugee for $16 (including all costs of obtaining a Bible and it to remote northwestern Kenya).
