A Special Announcement

- Kate Makosky, IAFR Board Chair

As IAFR Board Chair, I have an important announcement to share with you today. After 17 years of serving as IAFR President/CEO, Tom Albinson senses the same Spirit that called him to found IAFR in 2009 is now nudging him to step out of the role of President.
Tom founded IAFR in 2009 in response to a world on the brink of an unprecedented refugee crisis. In his faithful following of this call, this remarkable organization was created. Under his vision and leadership, IAFR has grown to 30 staff across 10 ministry locations, with 16 active projects, over 200 church partnerships, and $2.2 million in annual contributions. He has shaped not just this organization, but inspired a movement rooted in the hope and conviction that helping people survive and recover from forced displacement can be done in partnership with local churches, refugee churches, and the church-at-large. We are better together. That legacy will endure long beyond Tom’s tenure.
I am profoundly grateful to Tom for pouring his heart, faith, and life into IAFR. While this transition marks the close of a remarkable chapter, the Board looks to the future with confidence and hope.
The Board wants to share with you what you can expect going forward. Tom plans to stay on and continue to support IAFR through this transition. The Board will initiate the search process in coming days. We will approach this with the same prayerful care and reliance on the Holy Spirit that has guided IAFR from its beginning. Tom has agreed to stay on and support IAFR through this transition. If you know of someone who might be a strong candidate, or if you are interested in applying yourself, please reach out to Tim Barnes, IAFR Executive Vice President, directly at executivesearch@iafr.org.
The ministry of IAFR is needed today more than ever. We are confident that our best days are before us. We are thankful for your part in our mission of helping people survive and recover from forced displacement.
