Going to America

- Tom Albinson

This family as at the beginning of a new life changing journey. They were forced to flee Sudan over 20 years ago. When we met at the Kakuma airstrip on Friday, they had a few suitcases wrapped in tape that read "IOM" - the global agency that handles the logistics of refugee resettlement.
The son spoke English, so I asked where they were being resettled. He said, Las Vegas. A million thoughts went through my mind. I decided to simoly let him know that Las Vegas is in a desert too.
His mom didn't speak English, but clearly welcomed our reassurance that we were happy they were coming to America. I encouraged them to remember that God is with them now and will be with them there as well.
They will fly on to the US sometime next week after some orientation in Nairobi.
May God have good people waiting to welcome them in Nevada.
