ABOUT PASTOR GATERA
Pastor Gatera was born in Rwanda to a refugee family from Burundi. He was forced to flee Rwanda during the 1994 genocide. His epic journey seeking refuge ultimately brought him to Kakuma refugee camp in remote northwestern Kenya. It is there he became a Christian and served as pastor of a refugee church and became the leader of a large interdenominational network of diverse refugee churches in the camp.
After 20 years in Kakuma, he and his family were resettled to the US. Pastor Gatera presently lives in Minnesota and serves with IAFR as Refugee Church Consultant.
