Saeed is a Survivor!

- Kate Cami

We first met Saeed and Vesna over five years ago while they were living in one of the refugee camps outside Athens. They came for a medical clinic, heard the Good News, and chose to believe!

A Wedding in Many Languages

At the time, they were living together but were not yet married. Convicted that this was not in line with their new life in Christ, they asked us to help them plan a wedding. It was a beautiful day, with cake and finger food provided by our team and refugee volunteers, hosted by a Greek Evangelical church close to the camp. The wedding, performed in English, was translated into Farsi for the groom, Serbian for the bride, and Greek for the church guests!

Out of the Refugee Camp

With the help of church members, Saeed and Vesna were able to move out of the camp and into an apartment building nearby. Many of the other residents in the building are elderly and were happy to have a young couple living among them, ready to help with odd jobs. Contributing and caring for others equipped Saeed and Vesna to build friendships and community in their new home.

Cancer Turns the Tables

When Saeed was diagnosed with cancer, the tables turned, and these friends and neighbors are now helping Saeed and Vesna. Saeed developed cancer as a complication of disease he was exposed to during his refugee journey.

At first, his doctors thought he might not survive, but the chemotherapy treatments he is receiving appear to be effective, and the cancer is shrinking. Sadly, Saeed lost his job due to illness, and the cancer has made it difficult for him to walk. His doctors believe he will not regain the use of his leg without physical therapy. This, however, is not available in the village where they are staying. Vesna also hasn’t been able to work because she is staying home to help care for him. The church is helping with their rent for the time being, and the other residents of the building are bringing meals.

Pray for Saeed and Vesna

Please join us in response to Saeed's request for prayer.

Pray for Saeed's full recovery.

Pray for the provision of physical therapy and regained use of his leg for Saeed.

Pray for strength and peace for Saeed and Vesna as they wait on God for healing and hope in this time of hardship.

Pray for their community and medical teams, especially the One Heart team, as they decide how best to help Saeed and others who suffer displacement in Athens.
