Silent Night

Dec 21, 2023

- Tom Albinson

While visiting Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi in October, Whitney recorded Silent Night with our friends who have found refuge in that difficult place. We are happy to share it with you now as our way of wishing you a Merry Christmas.

As Silent Night was originally written in Austria (where Whitney calls home) it seemed appropriate to begin singing in German before transitioning into English.

This song of peace was recorded in one of the world's forgotten refugee camps. The men accompanying Whitney have been driven from their homes and homelands by the dark forces of war and gross violations of human rights.

The longing for peace runs deep in all of us.

It was to people in need of hope that the prophet spoke of Jesus long before his birth.

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;

on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor,

Mighty God,

Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end."

- Isaiah 9:2,6,7

Jesus is the hope that makes it possible to sing even in places like Dzaleka.

Merry Christmas from all of us at IAFR!

When God decided to rescue the world, God did so by becoming human and living among us. That's what we celebrate at Christmas.

As the Body of Christ, we are called to be a tangible expression of God With Us in the world today. That's why relationship is core to everything we do as we pursue our mission. And that is why our IAFR teammates are our most valuable asset.

You can make a life-giving difference in the lives of refugees through supporting an IAFR missionary! We can't show up without you!
