Trauma Care

Pastor Gatera and I met with John O. this morning before flying up to Kakuma this afternoon. John is based in Nairobi and works with SIL's excellent trauma care training work around the world. IAFR has partnered with John/SIL for several years in our work in Dzaleka refigee camp (Malawi). They have successfully birthed a refugee led trauma care initiative there through a remarkable woman, Mama Grace. I was glad I could finally meet John myself after hearing so much about him.
We talked about the need and possibilities of bringing their training to Kakuma in the future. The need is great. Many people there are hungry for it.
We had a robust conversation about humanitarian space and how to navigate it in our work. Much of it was new to him. He was grateful as he plans to take it with him to a meeting of SIL leaders in Athens soon. He was also happy to hear that Jake Tornga (IAFR) will be at a large gathering of missions in Thailand later this year to offer a multi day training on working in humanitarian space. John said he will encourage SIL missionaries to participate in it.
This work is bigger than any one organization. we all need to do our part. it is encouraging when we can find productive ways to collaborate together.
