Trauma Healing Groups
Oct 16, 2020

In August 2019, IAFR and our partners at There Is Hope and SIL conducted a week long training on trauma awareness and healing in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi. Our plan was to have a second and third round of advanced training in May and August of this year. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, these trainings have been postponed indefinitely. Thankfully this has not stopped those who attended the first training from putting their skills to use. One refugee leader from the camp has been facilitating small 'healing groups' of 5 or 6 people at a time for the past few months. In total, more than 100 people have gone through the Healing the Wounds of Trauma curriculum thanks to her efforts. Below is a quote from an attendee of one of the healing groups –
“Hello, my name is Marceline Muteba. I am a mother of 10 children and my husband died. Not long ago I felt like the burden of caring for my children was too heavy. Our facilitator really helped me and I love the teachings so much, I cannot miss even one day. When I do, I feel like I have lost an important part of my life.”
What a beautiful example of the worthiness of this work!
