Throughout history, refugees have always been a blessing to their host nation. This is especially true when given opportunities to participate fully in the host nation economy. The list of refugees who have started businesses in their host nation is long and distinguished, both in Africa and Europe and North America.
IAFR believes it is possible and beneficial for refugees to have training opportunities beyond just college and university, but in trade schools as well. This is happening in Malawi, where refugees and Malawians are learning side by side in trade skills like carpentry, brick laying, plumbing, welding, and tailoring at the There Is Hope school. We are thankful to the Malawian government and the Dowa community for their long-standing welcoming of these development opportunities. It is a strong statement that refugees are far more than just people in need.
