We provided funding to help renovate and remodel the Athens refugee center, operated by our local partner, One Heart.
Athens Building Remodel
Refugees come to Greece via a long and difficult journey, hoping to find a better future for themselves and their children. Instead, they often end up in overcrowded living conditions, with poor nutrition and few medical care options. Navigating the asylum and aid process in Athens is a huge challenge, and migrants can quickly lose hope. They need a place that focuses on helping make Greece their home—a place that is welcoming, relational, and accessible for all.
The Opportunity
You can help complete the remodel of the new refugee center, including furnishings and necessary equipment for the medical clinic, by donating to this project fund. Simply click the red Donate button above.
The Goal
The purpose of this project is to establish a facility in Athens that will serve as a base for One Heart’s ministry among refugees in the region. After purchasing the building, remodel work began in autumn 2019 to equip the building for various activities, particularly medical clinics.
The Strategy
IAFR partners with One Heart, a Greek agency providing assistance to refugees in the greater Athens area, offering hope and friendship as they also give practical support. We have two missionaries serving with One Heart, and also partner with One Heart financially, supporting this important work. In the summer of 2019, One Heart was able to purchase a building that now meets a variety of needs: a proper space for medical clinics, a meeting place for a refugee church and Bible studies, and venue for small classes and cultural events.
The Progress
While the major work is nearing completion, the building still needs to be furnished before it can become fully operational. Certain equipment is also necessary in order to license the space for medical purposes, such as examination tables and an EKG.
