Ukraine
The Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 unleashed a major humanitarian crisis in Europe. People in Ukraine are in need of essential provisions including safety, water, food, medicine, shelter, supportive community, and hope. The numbers change from day to day. What remains consistent is that millions of Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes - and millions more have been forced to flee their homeland since the Russian invasion began.
Our Mission
We are focusing our response on helping people in Ukraine survive. We are doing this by supporting the work of Ukrainian churches in their communities. They are the ones doing the heavy lifting. We are helping the Church outside of Ukraine partner with them as they help people survive and strengthen hope in the midst of the crisis. To this end, we are partnering with a church in Slovakia near the Ukraine border that is constant touch with church leaders throughout Ukraine. They communicate with these leaders to identify current priorities and find ways to get resources where they are most needed. We have helped churches in Ukraine provide shelter, medicine, clothing, transportation, and other kinds of practical assistance. We have helped them outfit shelters with showers, toilets and washing machines. We have helped then purchase vehicles to transport relief and to transport people out of conflict zones to safety.
Churches in Ukraine are doing everything they can to help in this protracted crisis. They have identified two main priorities with which IAFR is assisting at this time.
They need funding to help transport people out of conflict zones. As of June 2024, IAFR has helped an estimated 28,700 people get to safety since the conflict began.
They need funding to support programs providing food and medical assistance to displaced elderly people and children.
